ALP is chosen for set & lighting design
ALP tours with "Stories from the Heart" featuring Bob
Carlisle, Russ Taff & Natalie Grant
May 11, 1999 -- Available Light Productions, an industry-leading corporate and
entertainment production company, based in the Chicago suburb of Warrenville, IL,
(and now in Orlando, FL) has
designed and is currently supplying the set and lighting for the spring 1999
"Stories From The Heart" tour featuring Grammy award winning artist Bob Carlisle. Carlisle,
best known for his Grammy winning song, "Butterfly Kisses" is also joined by CCM and
Gospel music veteran Russ Taff, and newcomer Natalie Grant.
Carlisle is supporting his newest Diadem release "Stories From The Heart" while
Taff and Grant are each supporting new albums on the Benson label. Release date
for Taff is June 15th while Grant's album was released on April 27th.
The tour, which began on April 15th in Florence Alabama and runs through May
30th, features lighting and set production support by Available Light Productions. Kirk and Carol Garreans, co-owners of ALP, designed both the set
and lighting, and Kirk is also lighting director for the tour. ALP is working
directly with Chuck Pryor of Pryor Productions, who was awarded the overall
production contract for the tour. Pryor Productions is providing the audio rig
and trucking, in addition to contracting with ALP for lighting and set production.
The lighting rig consists entirely of Vari*Lite automated luminaires, provided
by Vari*Lite Production Services in Chicago. There are a total of 14 fixtures
in the system: 9 VL5 wash fixtures (4 of which are mounted on floor stands) and
5 VL6 spot luminaires. A combination of rental and custom gobos are used in the
spot fixtures. The control console for the lighting is a Jands Hog 600, provided by ALP. Two Ultra-Arc followspots, provided by True Light Productions
in Nashville, are also touring with the system. Truss and lifts are provided by
both VLPS Chicago and True Light Productions.
The set consists of staggered height vertical trussing, connected by two 9'x12'
video screens. Softgoods are used throughout the set, to provide projection
surfaces for the lights. Artist-owned Sanyo 9000 projectors are flown from the
downstage truss, which allows for video to add to the production during Carlisle's portion of the show.
Ken Maust, Tour Manager, is also handling audio mixing duties on Pryor's 40x8
Crest GTx with drive racks that include... Sony DVD, EAW, Yamaha, Lexicon,
Behringer, Klark, Shure UHF and more. The audio rig is a 20 box EAW KF650/SB1000 system, and will be utilized for the house with EAW SM155
monitors for the artists fold back.
Production Manager and audio systems tech for the tour is Chuck Pryor.
